State of North Carolina, Orange County

     This Indenture made this fourteenth day of October in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-six. Between Samuel Strudwick of the county of Orange and state of North Carolina of the one part and Richard Christmas of county and state aforesaid, of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Samuel Strudwick for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand (pounds) current money of North Carolina to him in hand paid before the ensiling and delivery of these presents to receipt whereof the said Samuel Strudwick doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted, bargained, and sold, aliened, enfeoffed, and confirms by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, alien, enfeoff and confirm unto the said Richard Christmas, his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of land situate, lying, and being in the said county of Orange, whereof he now lives. Beginning at a red oak on Cates' line, then running north 80 chains to a black oak sapling on Pollock's line ,thence along his line south five west 80 chains 10 links to a stake, then east 20 chains to Cates' corner, then along his line across Cain Creek to the first station containing in estimation six hundred and fifty-six acres. Land and also the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders and rents, services thereof all the estate, right title, interest, property claim, and demand whatsoever of him the said Strudwick . . .
